maine vacation ~ sand beach

After a couple days of hanging out around the cottage and the shore, we toured around the Acadia National Park in the Bar Harbor area on Mount Desert Island on a cooler, foggy, and misty kind of a day. Our first stop at Acadia was Sand Beach. This was probably one of our most favorite beaches we have ever been to (if that is even possible for us to have a favorite beach since we are not beach people at all). We had so much fun here that we visited here 3 times during our vacation! We weren't sure what to expect of this spot, but once we got there, we found out that this first day we were not prepared for a day at the beach. There was this huge nice sandy beach nestled between a very rocky shoreline. The views were spectacular!

Our first stop to Sand Beach was on a cool, cloudy, foggy day. Some of us actually had jackets and pants on! We definitely didn't wear our swimsuits let alone bring them along! Because of the weather, there weren't as many people on the beach which made lots of room for the kids to run around without bumping into anyone.

We ran away from the waves that were crashing into the shore being very careful not to get wet...

Ivy got lots of hugs from her very sweet and loving friend, Levi. So cute!

We hung out on the beach enjoying the feel of the soft sand under our feet and between our toes. Letty was even trying to bury her Daddy in the sand...

We were having fun...

BUT...being around the water with a few little ones, especially boys, it was inevitable that the carefulness to not get wet would wear off. They were bound to get wet from the freezing cold water (the water temperature had to have been in the 50's)...

BUT, Owen couldn't just settle for being wet, he had to get super sandy too...

Owen seemed to strike this pose every time he faced a wave to come crashing down on him...

Letty was content just running around in the sand far enough away from the water coming in to get her feet...

Sometimes though, she would dare to walk toward the water (still far enough away from it though), but as soon as she saw the water heading her way, she immediately turned around and ran away from it. So fun and so cute to watch!
A couple of days later, we went back to Sand Beach. This time the sun was shining...the kids had their swimsuits on...we had the beach towels in hand...and lots of laughter, smiles, giggles, and fun were made by ALL...
Letty even dared to be right near the water this time...

She ran toward the water...

...then she'd run away from the water again.
Over and over again...
...but eventually the water got her!

Of course, it wouldn't be a day at the beach unless Owen got really sandy and dirty...

...and, of course, our kids couldn't let our friends get away with having a super clean boy either. I think our kids taught Levi A LOT during this vacation (hopefully, at least one good thing!). :0)

As we were washing the sand off of everyone and getting ready to leave, we found out that we were actually vacationing with some celebrities...a lady from New Jersey who reads Jess's blog and who was also vacationing in Maine, recognized Jess and her family, and came up to introduce herself and say hello. Wow, what a small world! I thought I had the feeling that someone was watching us!
Finally, we had SO MUCH fun at Sand Beach that we decided to stop back there before heading home on the last day of our vacation. So much fun! So many great memories!
