advent day #7 - Ivy's version/game night

First thing every morning (after she asks if the cartoons can be turned on), Ivy ALWAYS asks what it is that we would be doing for the day in our advent calendar. This morning she has started to plan her own days aside from the already planned ones.

According to Ivy's plans, today we were to go outside for a walk and then when we got home we were to play outside for a little while. When we were done playing outside, we would come inside to get ice cream and a cookie for our snack, which we would eat out on the porch swing. :-)

Problem was...the temperature was in the low 30's with a breeze which made it feel even colder outside. SO, Mommy, Ivy, Owen, and Letty (Daddy had to work) bundled up, hooked Paisan up to his leash, and went for our walk.

Fortunately, when we returned home, Ivy was too cold to play outside or to even eat ice cream on the front porch swing. Instead, we forewent playing outside and went right to our "snack" of ice cream and a cookie. (This was definitely something VERY special for the kids to get TWO sweet snacks in the morning as they usually don't even get ONE sweet snack for a morning snack.)

After Daddy got home from work, we did our advent activity for the day. Tonight was family game night! We started the night with CHARADES (Daddy's game idea)!

I must say that some of the guesses Ivy had for the ones that Daddy acted out were quite impressive. She has such an imagination!

After Charades, we played CHRISTMAS BINGO!

And then, we were on to BOGGLE JUNIOR!

Of course, Owen came up with his own way of playing Boggle Junior.

And, Letty got to play a game of her own - Peek-a-Boo!

Before bedtime, we worked on our memory verse and read a Scripture passage from Genesis to remind us of why Jesus needed to come to this earth.

And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden. ~Genesis 3:8
